Bucktown Tiger©
Bucktown Tiger

on winning the 2011 Fandom's Favorite Fursuit Fracas!

And fat props to this year's Tourney Runner-Up, Twitch da Woof Twitch da Woof, for an epic see-saw battle in the Finals that saw the lead swing back and forth throughout the entire week of voting.1

Many thanks to everyone who voted in any of the polls this year, as well as to all of the suiters who nominated themselves to participate in this showcase. Stay tuned for the feedback survey coming up soon!

1Despite the lateness of this post, the official results as of the announced deadline of the poll were: Twitch da Woof 344, Bucktown Tiger 353.

Well, just have some nastiness to get out of the way and it sucks that the timing had to be at the end of the polls to make me look like a sore loser, but I've gotten messages from people saying they never got approved and couldn't vote for me, even with meeting the requirements to be approved. That and having a FFFF maintainer, Huscoon heavily favoring my opponent, going as far as taking a shot at me on Twitter by calling Bucktown a "real performer" in a way to make me sound like I can't perform in fursuit, then insulting people who supported me, this is the first FFFF that's ending not with a "Well shit, I lost" but more of a sour taste in my mouth. I know how to perform, he knows it, the voters of the FFFF have shown they know it. I'd like to ask Huscoon as politely as I can, as a FFFF maintainer, to please pull the tree branch out of his ass snd sit in a bucket of Preparation H 'cause his hemorrhoids are screaming all over the internet. The dead horse has been beaten to paste, resurrected, stabbed with a wooden steak and beaten back down with a sack of garlic.

The good that came from this was having the two finalists actually interacting with each other. Bucktown and I were on the Funday Pawpet Show as a call in to get asked questions like a beauty pageant and hung out in the FPS chat room with everyone, I was invited to co-host Bucktown's weekly stream and was on webcam with him, even traded apologies with each other over how some of our fans were acting towards us. He was nothing but a good sport and earned why he made it so far along with one of the tightest freaking battles in the FFFF.

That and I had no idea exactly how many people like the crazy stuff I do in fursuit. The outpouring of messages, tweets, comments, not to mention how I tore ass through the comp this year with the only exceptions being well, this round, and the freaking awesome Doryuu who which I thought I was going to lose to and for good reason, he can dance his ass off!

It's given me one loud and clear message from everyone, THEY WANT MORE TWITCH! Thanks to you guys I'm feeling pretty re-energized fursuiting-wise instead of juggling the idea of giving Twitch a rest while focusing my efforts on my new fursuit, Rush Husky (seen here! http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6293624 ). You've been loud and clear, I'll be sure to get off my ass and start throwing down the crazy YouTube video ideas instead of sitting on them like I have, and I'll definitely be active in the online streams on Ustream (http://www.ustream.tv/channel/twitch-da-woof-live).

Those who didn't know me before the finals, check me out!

The positives definitely outweighed the negative mentioned up top, and I couldn't ask for a better group of fans, let alone having fans at all! I took a big gamble with going talking, as everyone knows a big gamble is either a big payoff or a big loss. It's definitely turned out to be a payoff, and I can't thank you guys enough. It took about a year for people to figure out my routine, but it's turned into a monster since then. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

All said, I'm making this my last year competing. I beat a lot of people that deserved a spotlight and a chance to shine, and with all the people that came out of the woodwork to tell me they're a fan of mine and supporting me? I can comfortably say I'm happy where I'm at and I feel like I'd be very unfair by continuing to run in the tourney. I want to see some more awesome performers come out and more than happy to step aside to give the FFFF spotlight to someone who can perform their ass off. Hope to see Clementine and Doryuu push their way to the top!

Dude, it was such a tough race! The fact that you were neck and neck through most of it speaks volumes.

Also, it has to be said: you don't need a poll to determine who's a great fursuiter. It's a lot of fun, and it's cool to get such recognition, but honestly, we're all family, and we all know who's awesome. You're among the awesome, my friend.

Nevertheless, I will be doing my part to congratulate both of you real soon! ^_^ *hug*

That seven hour marathon you did yesterday was amazing, Twitch. It was kinda hilarious that you kept guessing who I was, albeit incorrectly.

To me, you are as equally qualified to performing as Bucktown is. You two both have talents that I hope the fandom appreciates you for, and to be honest, I wish I had even a smidgen of either of your guys' talents.

I'll see you at MFF and try to snap a great picture of you, Twitch.

(Sorry if this sounds corny, but I'm typing this in a half-zombie state, having only about five hours of sleep.)

I know I'm not the person you need to hear this from, but I have to say that the heat you took for being who you are was LOW. In the end there were two awesome people in the fandom in the FFFF finals and it's sad that such a competition as this had to be ruined by such pettiness on the part of one of the people responsible for the competition in the first place. If what you said is correct, then I'd feel just as you do.

That said, I'm very proud that you made it as far as you did, and I have to admire your humbleness in regards to the fursuit performers you were up against. I completely understand why you would not want to compete in such contests as this again, but I think if anything was proven through this competition...it's that you no longer need to. (And trust me, that is one HELL of a compliment.) :-)

Congratulations Twitch on a tremendous run in a VERY tight race to the end! :-)

Aw crap, Twitch! I'm sorry the race turned dirty at the last minute. You and Bucktown were both great contestants, it's almost a shame it couldn't have been a tie. Hey, I heard this on the radio once from an Olympian; whoever says there's only one winner never took silver home. I hope t see you at cons soon!

Twitch,

I'm disappointed in your response to this journal. Furthermore, as I was campaigning, making people alert of the tournament and asking if they'd vote Bucktown, I wan in to people who had a strong distaste for you. The results of the tournament were the results of people deciding who they'd vote for, even though some were voting based on species.

I do believe it's unfortunate you've decided to not compete in the tournament. You'll be missed in the future tournaments.

I believe these tournaments have been called out upon for being popularity contests, and if that were the case then several fursuiters who should be competing do not, for reasons of what you just displayed.

I wish you luck and I'm sure the tournament moderators could overlook what you said if you wanted to compete next year.

Sincerely,
Insane Kangaroo

Sorry to interject, but I kinda doubt most would want to come back as your response doesn't sound very pleasant and a wee bit snarky which I think you weren't trying to do.

Though both people did have some who liked and did not like them on a personal level. I know of people with issues on both sides. Most anyone I'm sure could find others who for one reason or another was mad at someone.

However when the people who do run the tournament make rather uncalled for comments at anyone, that isn't cool and I can't blame him for being upset. Then when people do try to join towards the end and don't get accepted, it doesn't come off the best. I know of three that said they didn't get accepted.

Bucktown did earn his win, I will not argue that, but some mods really dropped all hints of neutrality and trying to run a fair show.

I had multiple people that didn't get accepted either - the vast majority of those was because of not having confirmed emails with LiveJournal - in those cases the FFFF staff were actually approving the applications, but LJ was rejecting them... I worked with dozens of people over the last few weeks trying to get them in the group, and 90% of issues were with the email thing (in some cases the validation email was never even sent!)

sorry for not replying earlier - i have been slammed with MFM prep and trying to get my new album out the door...

I think you're misconstruing what he was talking about. I think someone working on the tournament shouldn't be making remarks about what they feel about fursuiters participating. I mean, he was probably a good friend of Bucktown's, as am I, but I really don't think it's fair to be mean spirited to someone competing against a friend just because they are your friend.

I think as the deadline came closer some had lost site on the difference between being a rival and being an enemy. People handle competition differently. I'm very glad both competitors kept a good amount of composure in the end though, despite what their avid fanbases were doing.

This was started as something to get suiters recognized, and give the builders some publicity, and you know what? White Wolf is packed full of commissions, I threw the rule book out and did whatever I wanted in fursuit, and hated or not, it's worked way beyond I ever thought it would.

So why exactly keep competing for a title when I've already achieved all this? I don't want to walk over other suiters that aren't as well known, and to be totally honest, the smearing by a FFFF staff member sealed that deal. I didn't sign up to have my hard work in developing a talking character get smeared.

And if they have a strong distaste for me? They can tell me they do. Hell I invite them to tell me. TwitchDaWoof on Twitter and on FA. Most who have hated me changed their minds after actually meeting me rather than listening to hearsay. If they still don't like me? I'm still sleeping soundly at night. Not to mention, if I was so heavily disliked, how the hell did I make it to the finals? :P

Obviously the same thing happens to me. You've made some statements in journals which a few people have frowned upon and they've developed preconceived views.

I did hear some rumors about Huscoon making comments, but didn't see anything since his Twitter account is protected.

Maybe you should get the word out, get some screenshots, and go to the other maintainers for the Fursuit Tourney. I for one wouldn't mind seeing Huscoon removed as a group moderator. He's made threats to remove me from voting based on my opinions on certain sexual fursuiters who ran in the tourney.

I do encourage you to go for the tourney next year.

No screenshots, but copy/pastes:

"Go vote for the very talented musician & real fursuit performer, @bucktowntiger, to win this year's FFFF! http://www.livejournal.com/poll/?id=1771822 Go Bucktown!"

When Vermy got pissed over that "real fursuit performer" comment and started doing sketches for votes:

"D'awwww, @vermyfox is being a good fox and whoring himself out to a wolf. #StereotypeConfirmed".

Like I said, I invite anyone who has a problem with me to talk to me about it. If they don't do it, I don't know that there's a problem. I think that's pretty fair.

I'm definitely not competing in any competition like this ever again after the past week. For something supposed to be fun, it was nothing but stress. Here it is two days later and I'm still exhausted. I'll let my performance in fursuit speak for itself from now on, not a poll.

> "D'awwww, @vermyfox is being a good fox and whoring himself out to a wolf. #StereotypeConfirmed".

That's so not cool.

Regarding the latest poll they put up for next year, I placed in the comments field, "standards of conduct for moderators"

If people are going to chose to run the tournament, they shouldn't be making comments like what was written on Twitter.

> I'll let my performance in fursuit speak for itself from now on, not a poll.

You got a partial suit to the finals... TO THE FINALS... I'm fairly sure that speaks for itself right there Twitch! I hope you try next year with your Twitch fursuit.

Problems aside with the voting your does come across as being sour grapes.
Please didn't take it personally I vote only on merit on the fandom on the whole; have just a cute fursuit and I know what bucktown has done for starting with self publishing a furry rap album for starter. I still blast Going to a Fur con as part of my going to convention ritual. I Perhaps on thing the needs to be done it cut off registration at the stat of the quarter finals to prevent vote stuffing.

Geez, I know you were saying on Twitter about hot some were bad-mouthing you, but if it was a maintainer here saying stuff like that, they need to step back and check their opinions at the door. When you sign on to help, you accept that you have to stay impartial in the scheme of things. Very uncool on his part. And as a result, that deserves an unfollow.

That being said, congratulations. You may not have taken first, but you still go so far and did so well. I had my alligence to Bucktown, but had you faced anyone else, you would for sure have had my vote. You're a great suiter no matter what anyone says.

Now that you've taken second, you have to push to get first next year. And know that my vote is going to be behind you.

No sir, I'm not going any further with the FFFF. The finals were too much stress, people were too immature with personal attacks.

After I've given it a few days, I'm set on not doing this again. I'm telling people to let their fursuit performance speak for itself, not a competition. It got way too dirty.
